View Map

Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5) is the last tin dredge in Malaysia and situated in Batu Gajah, Perak which is about 30 minute-drive from Ipoh.

Built in England in 1938 by F.W. Payne & Son, TT5 was a coal steam powered floating factory before rebuilt in 1963 to using electricity.TT5 weighs 4,500 tonnes supported by the pontoon 75-metre length, 35-metre width and 3-metre depth. TT5 halted its 44-year operations in 1982 due to the collapsed of tin mining industry and escalating operational costs.

In 2015, the State Government of Perak mandated Menteri Besar Incorporated Perak (MB Inc.) to conserve the last tin dredge in Malaysia.  TT5 is known as an iconic mining heritage in the tin built State of Perak.
